Westmont put the pedal to the metal and rolled over Cal Lutheran in a battle of undefeated women’s volleyball teams Tuesday night. The set scores were 25-20, 25-22, 25-11.
“This was one of our better games,” said Westmont head coach Patti Cook . “I didn’t have much to say about what we needed to improve on in this match.”
Both teams entered the match without a loss and ranked in the top-ten in its respective association. Westmont, ranked at No. 9 in the NAIA improved to 12-0. California Lutheran, the No. 10 team amongst NCAA Division III schools, fell to 6-1.
“We have typically had a third-set let down,” said Cook. We did not do that today. Before the game, we talked about keeping the pressure on and it was fun to see the team take it to heart. They had a battle cry of going ‘full throttle’ for the entire match.
“We were expecting to have to play hard and tough against a good Cal Lutheran team,” continued Cook. “They are coached well and have a long tradition of being a solid DIII team. None of the players took this game lightly. It is a very good win for us and I am very proud of how we played tonight.”
Junior outside hitter Madison Serrano recorded a match-high 16 kills for the Warriors and posted an attack percentage of .303.
