EL CAJON — With 11 kills each from Madison Serrano and Jessica McCann, No. 10 Westmont Volleyball swept San Diego Christian (3-11, 1-2 GSAC) in Golden State Athletic Conference play on Saturday afternoon. The Warriors won by scores of 25-17, 25-23, 25-22.
The Warriors posted an attack percentage of .227 in the match that saw 16 different Warriors take the floor. Setter Heidi Thompson recorded 29 assists while tallying nine kills of her own. She also had seven digs.
Down 6-2 in the first set, Westmont rallied with an 8-2 run that included three kills and a service ace by Serrano. The Hawks responded with two points to tie the score at 10-all, but Sydney Striff delivered back-to-back kills to put the Warriors up for good.
With the scored tied at nine-all in the second set, San Diego Christian put together a 4-0 run to take a brief lead. After Westmont tied the game at 15 points each, neither team had more than a one point lead until back-to-back kills by McCann give Westmont a 25-23 win.
In the third set, Westmont led 11-10 before going on a 5-0 run. San Diego Christian could not reduce the deficit to less than three points the rest of the set.
Westmont returns home to continue GSAC play on Tuesday when they host The Master’s at seven o’clock.
