SBCC placed three runners in the top 13 on Friday and finished second in the 11-team men’s race of the Foothill Invitational at Guasti Park in Ontario.
San Bernardino won the team title with 26 points, followed by SBCC (61) and Pasadena (90). San Bernardino Valley has been a powerhouse in cross country, winning five straight men’s state titles before falling to American River last year.
“That was a lifetime best for Ian by almost a minute,” said SBCC coach Scott Fickerson. “Our top five runners averaged a two-minute improvement over our first meet.”
SBCC took third in the women’s race out of 10 schools. Katie Huntington placed 10th on the 5K course in 19:43 and teammates Nicole Bartlett (13th, 19:58) and Alexa Sanchez (17th, 20:13) were close behind. Sanchez shaved 65 seconds off her time from last week, which was run in 90-degree heat in Saugus.
Moorpark won the women’s race with 50 points, followed by Pasadena (81) and SBCC (102).
The Vaqueros will compete in the WSC Preview on Friday, Oct. 4 at Arroyo Verde Park in Ventura.
