Westmont was dealt its first men’s soccer loss in the last five games, suffering a 1-0 defeat at the hands of No. 23 Cal State San Marcos.
The Warriors’ record now stands at 4-2, while CSUSM improves to 6-1-2.
The sole goal of the match materialized in the 10th minute. From just outside the 18-yard box, San Marcos midfielder Scott Rice blazed a left-footed strike that barely eluded the outstretched arms of Warrior goalkeeper Josh Glover before it settled inside the left post.
Despite outshooting the Cougars 11-7 and placing more shots on goal (6-3), the Warriors couldn’t find the back of the net.
Once again, Westmont’s defense played well.
The Warriors are back in action on Wednesday, Oct. 2, beginning Golden State Athletic Conference play against Vanguard.
