Chris Ekdahl got SBCC going with a goal in the second minute on Friday afternoon and the men’s soccer team went on to post a 2-0 shutout at College of the Canyons.
Ekdahl, a 6-2 freshman from Sweden, headed in a cross from Liron Cohen.
Goalkeeper Juan Rodriguez and the defense posted their second shutout in four days for the Vaqueros (2-2, 2-0 WSC). Rodriguez hasn’t allowed a goal in 2½ games, a span of 228 minutes.
“We created a lot of chances and it could have been 5-0 at halftime,” said coach John Sisterson.
The Vaqueros got an insurance goal in the 86th minute. Daniel Loveday worked the ball down the right side and fed his fellow Englishman, Jamie Sporcic, in front of the goal for a 2-0 lead.
The Vaqueros outshot the Cougars 20-4.
Santa Barbara will host defending WSC champion Oxnard on Tuesday in a 7 p.m.
