Laguna Blanca put in a gritty effort and outlasted Viewpoint in five sets in an intense girls volleyball match Thursday night in Calabasas.
“It was like a CIF playoff match,” Laguna coach Jim Alzina said after the 25-22, 20-25, 18-25, 25-15, 15-8 win in front of a hostile crowd. “It was like a glee club on steroids,” he described of the environment.
Hannah White was the catalyst behind the comeback from a 2-1 deficit. “She was our secretary of defense,” said Alzina.
Phoebe Madsen had 15 kills and Grace Woolf had 14 kills to pace the Laguna Blanca attack. Sett er Clara Madsen handed out 40 assists and Chloe Richman picked up 15 digs.
“We had to grind it out, and we stuck with it,” Alzina said. “We found a way to win.”
