Santa Barbara High got a taste of elite-level volleyball at the Archbishop Mitty Tournament on Saturday in San Jose.
The Dons went 0-4 playing some of the top girls teams in the state.
“We learned that if we want to play at an elite level, we have to cut down on our errors and play consistent,” Santa Barbara coach John Gannon said.
The Dons opened with a 25-20, 25-11 loss to defending Division 2 state champion Mitty, lost to Northern California Division 3 champion Campolindo, 25-27, 25-13,25-21, fell to Division 5 state champion Branson, 25-20, 25-23 and dropped a 25-19, 25-21 decision against Division 1 Northern Cal champ St. Francis of Stockton.
Mitty won the five-team event with a 5-0 record.
“We saw different styles of volleyball,” Gannon said.
The coach praised the play of setter Lexi Rottman and libero Bailey Roach.
