Bishop Diego won the championship at the Santa Paula girls volleyball tournament on Saturday, edging Channel Islands, 26-24, in the title match.
The Cardinals lost one set on the day, splitting with Channel Islands in pool play (25-14, 21-25). They swept Thacher (25-13, 25-20) and Santa Clara (26-24, 25-19).
After a first-round bye, Bishop beat Santa Clara (25-20) in the semifinals and Channel Islands in the final.
“We were led offensively by Judith Angulo, who had 10 kills in the two playoff games, including a couple momentum changing swings in the final,” said Bishop coach Jason Donnelly.
Hanna Brand carried the offense all day and Francesca Engel was solid at libero, Donnelly noted.
The Cardinals open Tri-Valley League play on Tuesday at home against Grace Brethren.
