Santa Barbara High rose to the occasion in an early-season test against a top-10 opponent in CIF Division 1 girls tennis.
The seventh-ranked Dons defeated No. 8 Harvard Westlake, 11-7, on Wednesday to improve to 5-0.
“This was a good win for us and a good, early test for our team,” Santa Barbara coach Greg Tebbe said. “We still have work to do in order to keep improving, but I like how we competed and worked hard for every single point.”
The doubles team of Karina Thornton-Lexi Gulden turned in a stellar performance, going unbeaten in three sets. Megan Grant-Hailey deBoer and Kelli Martindale-Lisa Santry each went 2-1.
“I was impressed by how our doubles competed today against a Harvard Westlake team that had no obvious weaknesses. All three of their doubles teams played high quality tennis,” Tebbe said.
In singles, Mattea Kilstofte and Madison Hale both went 2-1.
