Vanesa Villa fired a 73 on Sunday and Fanny Johansson added a 75 as SBCC took second in the 11-team Desert Classic women’s golf tournament at Indian Canyons GC in Palm Springs.
Palomar shot 301 on Sunday and 602 for the 36-hole tourney, edging the Vaqueros (305-302–607) by five shots. Saddleback was third at 610.
Johansson, a freshman from Sweden, tied for fourth at 1-over 145.
SBCC’s Haley True, a sophomore from Santa Barbara High, shaved 12 strokes off her opening round with a 77. Teammate Maggie Daly also shot 77. The Vaqueros had six players post 78 or better.
Sadye Busby of Palomar was the medalist by seven shots with an 8-under 136.
“We played better than the first round on a course that was a little longer and tougher today,” said SBCC coach Chuck Melendez. “We’ve got a lot of talent and depth.”
The Vaqueros return to action on Sept. 8-9 in the South Coast Classic and WSC No. 1.
