Dos Pueblos cross country coach Leslie Wiggins Roth gave her girls team the weekend off, but freshman Natalie McClure and some other runners decided they wanted to do the Ojai Invitational.
McClure made her coach proud by finishing second in the large-school race on Saturday.
The freshman ran 19:12 and finished behind a runner from Burbank. Other DP girls who elected to run were Gabby Campbell (22:35), Angela Penza (22:48), Meredith Urschel (22:58 and Alina Wasjutin (23:13).
On the boys side, Dustin Oakes was DP’s first finisher in 17:40. He was followed by Ivan Ricardo (18:06), Kyle Glick (18:20), Dunbar Mecklin (18:25) and Jeremiah McElwee (18:32).
