The youngsters shined for the Dos Pueblos girls cross country team at the season-opening Seaside Invitational in Ventura on Friday.
In her debut, freshman Natalie McClure took second place in her division in a time of 17:40, which was one minute off standout Addi Zerrenner’s 5k time from last year. Not far behind McClure was fellow freshman Christina Rice in 18:07.
Elaine McClure, Natalie’s older sister, was the Chargers’ top finisher in the junior race with a time of 18:21. She was followed by Tatianna Schluep in 18:04 and captain Racquel Fygenson in 19:13.
For the Charger boys, senior captain Cole Smith led the way with a time of 14:40, which was good for fifth place in the senior race. He was followed by fellow captain Andrew McGuan in sixth in 14:51 and captain Tyler Bradford in 15:35.
Chris Wasjutin finished second in the junior race in 14:55 and his brother Ian Wasjutin ran 15:30.
I’m really proud of these guys, they are using the momentum from last year’s success to motivate themselves in preparation for this season,” said coach Leslie Wiggins Roth.
