The lessons continue for Santa Barbara High’s young offensive and defensive lines.
Atascadero controlled the trenches and used a punishing running attack to beat the visiting Dons 35-7 on Friday night.
The Greyhounds (2-1) rushed for 315 yards, led by running back Izaiah Cook’s 149 yards and three touchdowns. Quarterback Robbie Berwick rushed for an 18-yard TD and threw a 4-yard scoring strike to Sam Neely.
Santa Barbara’s lone score came on a 1-yard run by Ramon Harper.
The Dons (1-2) got 42 yards on 14 carries from running back Cherokee Cunningham, and sophomore quarterback Brent Peus completed 25 of 37 passes for 120 yards.
“We’re green. This is us getting our experience,” Santa Barbara coach Doug Caines said.
