Top-ranked Cate had trouble handling Mojave’s speed and dropped a 45-19 decision in an 8-man football game on Friday night in the high desert.
“Mojave had a lot of speed; they were a fast team with a lot of discipline,” Cate assistant coach Dave Soto said. “They were very quick on the edge and they found holes and hit them hard.”
Mojave jumped out to a 19-0 lead and took a 26-7 advantage at halftime. Chris Oh caught a 65-yard pass from Michael Nettesheim for the Rams’ first-half score.
Max Vasquez scored on a 50-yard run in the third quarter and Nettleseim threw a 40-yard TD strike to Vasquez for the other Cate scores.
“We took it as a learning experience,” Soto said. “We didn’t play as well as we hoped, but there is a lot of people left to play.”
