Santa Rosa scored twice in a 10-minute span of the first half and went on to beat SBCC 3-1 on Thursday in a first-round women’s soccer match at the Ventura Tournament.
“We started slowly and they scored on defensive errors in the 16th and 25th minutes,” said coach John Sisterson.
The Vaqueros fell to 1-1 and Santa Rosa, ranked 12th in the nation, improved to 1-0.
Maddie Shaw cut a 2-0 halftime deficit in half by converting a penalty kick in the 60th minute. Sisterson said his team “dominated the next 20 minutes” before the Bear Cubs scored again in the 86th minute.
The Vaqueros will take on San Diego Miramar, ranked No. 6 in the NSCAA poll, on Saturday at 1 p.m.
