Westmont improved its volleyball record to 5-0 with two wins on the final day of the Biola Summer Slam. The 16th-ranked Warriors defeated Concordia (Ore) 3-2 in the afternoon game and William Jessup 3-0 in the evening game.
Freshman outside hitter Jessica McCann led the Warrior attack against Concordia, tallying 18 kills and posting an attack percentage of .293. Junior Madison Serrano added 15 points while hitting .294 and had 15 digs. Junior middle blocker Ciara Turner contributed 11 kills and recorded a .300 attack percentage. Heidi Thompson notched 36 assists in the match and produced 14 digs.
Westmont captured the first two sets by identical scores of 26-24. Though the Warriors jumped out to a 17-9 lead in the third set, the Cavaliers showed their resiliency and outscored the Warriors 16-6 to claim a 25-23 win.
Concordia continued their onslaught as the fourth set began, outpacing the Warriors 20-8. Westmont rallied toward the end but fell 25-15 to tie the match at two-sets each.
After scoring the first four points of the decisive fifth set, Westmont extended its lead to 10-4. Once again, Concordia rallied, catching up with the Warriors at 12-all. A kill by McMann and an ace serve by Kami Troesch gave the Warriors match point at 14-12. After a Cavalier timeout, a kill from Turner put an end to the match with a Warrior win.
The Warriors had no trouble with William Jessup, winning 25-11, 25-13 and 25-10. McCann tallied nine kills with a .273 attack percentage while Marissa Fuerst tallied six hits in six attempts for a 1.000 attack percentage. Alexandria Wilson and Sydney Striff each recorded five kills with attack percentage of .400 and .833 respectively.
