Santa Barbara Swim Club’s Alex Valente captured an eighth-place result in the A-Final of the 100 butterfly at Junior Nationals in Irvine last week.
Swimming against the best swimmers in the country, Valente, 16, was the fourth-fastest in his age group with a time of 55.02 seconds.
Valente made the A-Final with a preliminary race time of 54.20.
“It’s the best of the best so it was pretty neat to be down there,” said SBSC head coach Mark Warkentin.
Justin Lynch, from the Terrapins Swim Club, triumphed in the event with a meet record of 52.91. Lynch qualified for the World Youth Championships later this month in Dubai.
