Seven athletes from Santa Barbara Swim Club are representing Southern Cal Swimming at this week’s North American Challenge Cup at the?Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way, Washington.
It’s the biggest group ever to compete at the international meet from SBSC.
“It’s a really exciting time for our program to have seven up there,” said SBSC head coach Mark Warkentin.
The seven swimmers – Tristan Depew, Maelyn Adornetto, Janelle Nguyen,?Dasha Depew, Ali Powell, Olivia Smith, and Walker Bell -?are part of a Southern California team that has 40 men and 40 women on its roster.
Each of the Santa Barbara teenagers will be competing in multiple events at the season-ending event that began this morning and continues through Saturday.
“It’s?not about going best times, it’s about winning the meet and scoring the most points possible,” Warkentin explained.
The Southern California team is competing against regional teams from the Pacific Northwest, Northern California, and Mexico.
