Alison Hensley provided all the firepower the Westmont women’s soccer team would need in a 2-0 win over Grace (Ind.) in the Warriors’ season opener on Saturday.
Hensley scored both goals from about 30 yards out. The first came with 28:21 remaining in the first half. Amanda Diesen threw the ball from the right sideline to Jenny Martinez who was charging away from the front of the goal. Martinez tapped the ball back to Hensley, who drilled the ball into the upper right corner of the net.
With 5:30 remaining in the first half, Hensley struck again. Playing on the right side of the field, Brooke Lillywhite received a pass from across the field and headed it back to Kaitlynn Durham. Durham used a single touch to pass the ball to Hensley in the center. Hensley settled the ball and fired past the outstretched arms of the Lancer goalkeeper Carmen Barnhill.
Senior Lindsey Smith played the first 64 minutes in goal for the Warriors before sophomore Lauren Dorr took over for the final 26 minutes. Neither keeper faced a shot on goal.
Grace fell to 0-2 on the season.
Westmont will travel across town on Tuesday to take on UC Santa Barbara in an exhibition game at Harder Stadium.
