Former Dos Pueblos High teammates Dillan Bennett and Jordon Dyer joined forces and won a beach volleyball national championship.
Bennett and Dyer captured the National Collegiate Sand Volleyball Association men’s doubles title last Saturday in Long Beach. They defeated Michael Brinkley of UC Irvine and Charlie Condron of Cal State Northridge, 21-12, 21-19.
Bennett is a student at Santa Barbara City College and the head boys volleyball coach at Laguna Blanca School. Dyer attends Long Beach State. They won several beach youth tournaments during their high school days.
In Long Beach, Bennett-Dyer went 3-0 in pool play, losing only one game against a team from Minnesota. In the playoffs, they eliminated the defending champions from Texas (28-19) in the quarterfinals and outlasted the Minnesota team, 28-26, in the semifinals.
The national championship gave Bennett tournament titles on consecutive weekends. The previous weekend he won the California Beach Volleyball Association Santa Cruz Open with 44-year-old East Beach local John Hancock.
The NCSVA National Championships was played at the site of the FIVB Long Beach Open and the Asics World Series of Beach Volleyball.
