San Marcos High School has hired a new girls golf coach for the upcoming fall season. Athletic Director Abe Jahadhmy announced on Monday that teacher Sarah Ashton will take over for Shawn Ricci.
Ashton is a San Marcos alum who is now a biology teacher after getting degrees from UCLA and Azusa Pacific. She has been an?assistant coach for boys and girls tennis, football, girls water polo and basketball. This will be her first head coaching position.
“I am extremely excited about the opportunity to be the head girls golf coach at San Marcos,” Ashton said. “The quality of the student-athletes involved in this program and their commitment to the game of golf is really inspiring. I?m looking forward to a successful fall season.”
She also works part-time at Glen Annie Golf Club and is married to the San Marcos aquatics coach Jeff Ashton.
Ricci decided to step down during the summer.
?Shawn did a great job of building a solid golf program. I was sad to see him step down. We are very fortunate to have someone of Sarah?s ability and enthusiasm and she is a great role-model to the girls. She will continue to build the girls golf program.?
The Royals begin their season in early September.
