Junior national and state shot put champion Stamatia Scarvelis set a stadium record in winning the discus at the Carpinteria All-Comers Track and Field Meet at Carpinteria Valley Memorial Stadium on Friday.
Scarvelis, who is going into her senior year at Dos Pueblos, threw the discus 152-2 to establish the new stadium record. She is coming off winning the USA Track and Field Junior National championship in the shot put and her second straight CIF State Meet girls shot put title.
The other highlight from the all-comers meet was Eugene Byrne of the Pacific Coast Track Club setting an Irish national age-group record in the 100 meters. He clocked 12.57 to set the mark in the men’s 55-59 age category.
