For being the top?cumulative 5k runner at Nite Moves in June, seventeen-year-old?Andrew Robbins has been named a Santa Barbara Running High School Runner of the Month.
Robbins competed in every Nite Moves 5k run during the month of June and finished strong on June 26 with a season-best second-place finish out of 220 contestants. In four races in June, Robbins placed 7th or better in each one.
Robbins, who is working a full-time day job during the summer months, is running every day in preparation for the fall’s cross country season. That includes making the trip to Nite Moves’ 5k run each week from Carpinteria.
“I’m running pretty much everyday, trying to get as much running as I can,” Robbins said.
The training is all about reaching new goals in his senior season at the academically demanding Cate School. Robbins is a three-sport student-athlete who competes in cross country, soccer and track & field.
Robbins started running to prepare for soccer season but the mathematically-minded Robbins liked the calculated results-driven aspect of the sport.
“The best part is the finish, when you’re done. Just putting in every once you have,” Robbins said.
