After two straight losses to the Santa Paula Halos, the Santa Barbara Foresters got back on track on Sunday with a 4-1 victory over the visiting Conejo Oaks.
The Foresters scored two in the second inning and two more in the fourth to provide starting pitcher Andrew Godail with all the run support he would need. Godail pitched seven innings without allowing an earned run. He struck out seven and earned his fourth win of the season.
Patrick Weigel pitched a clean eighth inning and Hunter Lemke recorded the save in the ninth.
The result bunches all four teams in the CCL North with nearly identical records. A half-game is all that separates the four teams in the standings.
Santa Barbara lost 5-4 on Friday night and 6-1 on Saturday to the Santa Paula Halos. The Foresters had won seven straight and 10-of-11 heading into the weekend.
Drew Van Orden started on Friday and upped his CCL-leading strikeout total to 49. The Texan has 49 Ks in 38 1/3 innings pitched this season and holds an earned run average of 0.94.
On Saturday, the Forester offense just about disappeared, finally plating a run in the bottom of the ninth inning.
The Oaks and Foresters will play again on Tuesday, followed by the CCL All-Star Game on Wednesday in Los Angeles. The CCL All-Star Game will be played at the MLB Urban Youth Academy in Compton at 7PM. Fox Sports West will televise the CCL All-Star game live.
The Foresters’ All-Star representatives are Garrett Mattlage, Tejay Antone, Colt Atwood, Van Orden, Louie Lechich, Patrick Weigel, Parker French, Joey Epperson, Ben Johnson, Jerry McClanahan and Ryan O’Hearn. Find a complete All-Star Game roster HERE
