Solid pitching from Matt Nichols combined with a potent offense led Dos Pueblos Little League All-Stars to a 10-2 win over Goleta Valley South for the District 63 Junior Division championship on Tuesday at GVSLL.
The title marks the third in a row for DP manager Wes Boyle (two of them consecutive Junior district titles) and players Jake Yamasaki and Wyatt Boyle. DJ Sharpe, Yamasaki and Boyle also were on last year’s junior division title team.
Dos Pueblos jumped out to a 3-0 in the first inning. Sharpe made it 6-0 when blasted a pitch over the left-field wall for a three-run homer. It was his fourth homer of the tournament. Sharpe went 3-for-5; Will Goodwin went 4-4 with two doubles, three RBIs and three runs scored; Yamasaki had three hits and scored twice and Boyle drove in a run.
Nichols pitched five shutout innings, giving up two hits, while striking out four.
Dos Pueblos went 6-0 in the tournament. Team members are DJ Sharpe, Davey Demeter, Jake Yamasaki, Will Goodwin, Wyatt Boyle, Jed Donelan, Ashton Borgeson, Matt Nichols, Jordan Barbieri-Low, Zach Wright and Daniel Willett. Brooks Garcia and Stan Soto are the coaches.
Dos Pueblos moves on to the Sectional Tournament, which is being hosted by Goleta Valley South. The team’s first game is Saturday at noon against Conejo Valley Little League.
