Newly crowned Irish National Champion and former UC Santa Barbara star Jennifer Carey will be extending her season by a few weeks to represent Ireland in the IAAF World Championships in the 400 meters.
Carey solidified her spot on the Irish National Team after winning her first national title in the 400m last weekend in Dublin. Her Big West winning time of 52.29 secured the World “B” standard and allowed her to be one of the 11 Irish athletes selected for the IAAF World Championships.
Carey is undefeated since leaving the US after the NCAA Outdoor Championships and has continued to show off her sprint speed in open races as well as relays. She will run in the 400m qualifying rounds on August 10th. The semi-finals will be a day later on August 11th and the women’s 400m championship final will be August 12th.
Carey leaves UCSB as the school record holder in the 200m, 400m, 4 x 100m and 4 x 400m relays. She was clocked in a 400m relay split in Austin, TX at the NCAA First Round competition in 51.5.
