Westmont College will no longer be the only Warriors in the Golden State Athletic Conference. Dr. Paul Ague, Chair of the GSAC Council of Presidents, has announced that beginning with the 2014-15 season, William Jessup University will become the league’s ninth member.
“On behalf of the current eight members of the GSAC, I welcome William Jessup University into the conference. The university fits within our conference mission and strategic plan,” said Ague.
William Jessup, located in Rocklin, California, 25 miles east of Sacramento, has an enrollment of 1,016 students, 764 of which are undergraduates. Currently a member of the California Pacific Conference, William Jessup sponsors eleven sports:
- Men’s and Women’s Basketball
- Men’s and Women’s Cross Country
- Men’s Golf
- Men’s and Women’s Soccer
- Women’s Softball
- Men’s and Women’s Track and Field
- Women’s Volleyball
“We are excited and challenged with the opportunity to join the GSAC, arguably the strongest conference in the NAIA,” said Dr. John Jackson, President of William Jessup University in a statement released by the GSAC. “This represents another step in our growth as a University.”
William Jessup began in 1939 as the San Jose Bible College. In 1989, the school was renamed San Jose Christian College and in 2002 it received accreditation by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges. The school’s name was changed to William Jessup University in 2003 and moved to its current location in Rocklin in 2004.
The GSAC membership includes Arizona Christian University, Biola University, Concordia University Irvine, Hope International University, San Diego Christian College, The Master’s College, Vanguard University, and Westmont College.
