Oliver Toole capped an outstanding junior season for the Stanford sailing team by being named the school’s conference male athlete of the year in the sport.
The award is present to the Stanford athlete who distinguishes himself in conference competition.
Toole, a Santa Barbara High alum who grew up sailing off the local coastline, led the Cardinal to a singlehanded conference title, team race title and helped them to their first No. 1 ranking in the nation in program history. He earned coed All-American skipper honors for the second straight year.
In the spring season, he won every conference event in all three disciplines: singlehanded, team racing and fleet racing.
Stanford advanced to the national finals, where they finished sixth.
