Several local baseball players have received invitations to participate in tryouts for this summer’s Area Code Games to be played in Long Beach in August.
An invite-only tryout is hosted locally at Westmont College on July 8 and features high school juniors (to be seniors) who have caught the eye of professional scouts.
Santa Barbara High’s Skyler Sabado and Carpinteria High’s Kevin Stein are both catchers. Bishop Diego pitcher/outfielder Nolan Tooley also received an invitation, as did a second Santa Barbara High player in Ian True.
The tryouts will help determine the final rosters for the eight teams that compete in the Area Code Games.
Now in its 27th year, the Area Code Games have developed into one of the best high school baseball talent showcases in the country, attracting top players from around the country.
More that 500 players who have participated in the event have advanced to the Major League level. Every major league team attends, with some bringing as many as 12 scouts. College coaches are also allowed to attend the games.
