Three up, three down for the Santa Barbara Foresters against the Bakersfield Sound for the 2013 season after Sunday afternoon’s 9-1 victory.
The scoring started early for the Foresters, who dropped six runs on the Sound in the first inning. Austin Darby and Garrett Mattlage walked before Jacob Felts continued his hot start with a double down the left field line to score two.
Jerry McClanahan mirrored Felts with his own double to left and was joined on the basepaths Shane Hoelscher who walked. Ryan O’Hearn kept the rally going with an RBI single to score McClanahan and Keaton Jones walked to loaded the bases for Louie Lechich, who promptly singled in two more before the inning came to an end.
With the score already 6-0 heading into the second inning, the Foresters added two more in the second. Felts doubled again and scored on a two-out RBI single by Hoelscher. O’Hearn followed up with another RBI single to push the score to 8-0.
Andrew Godail, tabbed as the starter, threw six innings to help a rest a worn down bullpen following Saturday’s 11 inning tie. He finished with six strikeouts while scattering seven hits. Godail, a lefty from Sam Houston State, entered the game having only pitched nine innings this season.
Felts’ continued his fantastic stretch with another double, his third of the game and second down the left field line, but could not be brought home. He finished the day 3-for-5 with two runs and two RBIs.
Lechich rocked a homerun to right field, clearing the 385 foot marker, to add another run in the fifth inning. It marked his second of the season, tying a team high, as Lechich finished 2-for-4 with three RBIs for the day.
Austen Williams entered in the seventh and threw a scoreless inning, Jace James pitched a scoreless eighth and Patrick Weigel threw the ninth inning with two strikeouts to close out the game.
