Each of the three local Channel League schools are represented on the Southern Section’s Division-2 All-CIF First Team that was released on Tuesday.
Carl Mendoza, Presidio Sports’ All-City Team MVP, was placed on the All-CIF Team with Dons teammate Ryan Worley.?Mendoza and Worley’s work?helped Santa Barbara win the Channel League title and advance to the CIF-SS Division 2 final.
Mendoza’s ability to read the hitters led to the 355 digs he picked up this season. He average 4.6 digs per set and had 33 assists. At the serving line he had 18 aces this season, making 95% of his serves.
The defensive strength of Mendoza allowed Worley to rack up 230 kills, 28 blocks and 120 digs for the season.
Shane Hauschild?represented?the San Marcos Royals on the All-CIF First Team. The Channel League MVP helped San Marcos advance to the CIF Division 2 semifinals, with an average of almost 6 kills per set in the playoffs. The junior?also had a presence in the back row as the team’s primary passer.
Representing the final Channel League school was Jackson Wopat from Dos Pueblos. After returning from a leg injury, Wopat had a major impact on the Charger team with over 10 kills per match. The 6-5 UC San Diego bound middle helped his team to reach the CIF quarterfinals.
CIF Divisional champion Esperanza had three players on the First Team, including?Player of the Year?Jacob Arnitz.
