Carpinteria High School senior Kyle Millhollin has been named a Santa Barbara Running High School Runner of the Month.
Millhollin recently helped lead two Warriors relay teams to the CIF-ss Track & Field Championships, the first time Carpinteria High has qualified two relay teams in many years.
Millhollin was strongest individually in the 400 meters, and was the Tri-Valley League’s third fastest runner in that event this season.
“Bryson (Fraser) was our star (of the team) because he was the fastest but it was really Kyle that was the consistent part of the group that kept everyone going in the right direction,” said Warriors head track & field coach Van Latham.
Millhollin embraced the role, saying his goal was “to make everyone try their hardest, give everything they got. I mean, you’re doing this sport for a reason – because you like it – so you might as well give it everything.”
Van Latham commended Millhollin for his leadership contributions starting with his work ethic.
“Kyle was a very hard worker. He was the guy that people rallied around,” Van Latham said. “He was the guy who didn’t take shortcuts. He’s the guy who made sure everything was taken care of.”
Next year Millhollin will be attending Santa Barbara City College and plans to start training with the Vaquero track & field team in the fall.
“If he continues with that attitude, he’ll do great at City,” Van Latham said.
