A day after suffering their first loss of the season, the Santa Barbara Foresters came back to split a doubleheader in Mission Viejo against the L.A. Brewers.
Santa Barbara won the first game 5-3 but fell 3-1 in the second game to lose 2-of-3 to the Brewers in a California Collegiate League series.
The Foresters won their first eight games of the season and now stand at 9-2 overall, 2-2 in CCL play. The Brewers won Tuesday’s game 2-0.
Colt Atwood blasted a two-run home run in the first game for the Foresters. The Foresters have been winning despite Atwood’s hit being only the second homer of the season for SB.
Santa Barbara’s only offense in the second game came in the first inning when Ryan O’Hearn recorded an RBI groundout.
Santa Barbara returns home on Thursday for a one-game set with the Neptune Pearl. The Foresters then return to the road for their longest road trip of the regular season, a five-game trip that will keep them away from Caesar Uyesaka Stadium until next Friday.
The Foresters will be without Shane Rowland for the rest of the season after Rowland signed with the Cleveland Indians after being drafted in the 20th round of the MLB First-Year Player Draft on Saturday. Rowland batted .385 in six games with Santa Barbara this summer, walking 11 times and driving home nine runs in only 29 plate appearances.
