Weekend Calendar: League titles at stake in track, swimming

The road to CIF championships begins this week for prep track and field, and swimming and diving athletes.

In track, Santa Barbara, San Marcos and Dos Pueblos will compete in the Channel League finals on Friday at 4 p.m., at SBCC’s La Playa Stadium. Over at Carpinteria Valley Memorial Stadium, Carpinteria High hosts the Tri-Valley League Championships on Thursday at 3 p.m.

The Elings Aquatic Center at Dos Pueblos High will be the site for the Channel League Swimming and Diving Championships on Thursday at 2 p.m.

Here are some other events worth checking out:


THURSDAY, MAY 2
BOYS TENNIS: Channel League Tournament Finals: The singles and doubles title matches will be played at either Buena or at a site in Santa Barbara if they’re all-local finals.

FRIDAY, MAY 3
PREP BASEBALL: San Marcos at Santa Barbara, 3:15 p.m. — The host Dons try to keep pace with Channel League-leading Dos Pueblos while the Royals look to play spoiler.

COLLEGE BASEBALL: UC Irvine at UCSB, 3:15 p.m. — The Gauchos open a three-game Big West series against the Anteaters. UCSB is two games behind third-place UCI in the standings.

SATURDAY
ROLLER DERBY: The Mission City Brawlin Betties host a bout with the Jail Breakers at the Page Youth Center at 5 p.m. The craziest costume worn by a spectator wins a special prize.

SUNDAY
YOUTH TRACK & FIELD: The Club West County Championships will be held at SBCC’s La Playa Stadium. Competitors are elementary and junior high students.

POLO: The Santa Barbara Polo & Racquet Club hosts its first Sunday polo event of the year.  The Lisle Nixon Memorial acts as Law/Fire Appreciation Day and Derby Hat Day.

TUESDAY, MAY 7
PREP BASEBALL: Dos Pueblos at Santa Barbara, 3:15 p.m. — First of a two-game series that will determine the Channel League title. Second game is Thursday at DP.
