Dos Pueblos’ Bryan Fernandez and Stamatia Scarvelis advanced to next week’s CIF-ss Track & Field Championships as favorites in two events, leading the Chargers at Saturday’s Prelims held at Moorpark College.
Dos Pueblos had six athletes advance on Saturday.
Fernandez, the Gatorade California Cross Country Runner of the Year, posted the day’s fastest time in the 3200 at 9:23.22. Fernandez won his heat and finished third overall in the 1600 with a time of 4:18.06.
Scarvelis, the reigning state champion in the shotput, threw 50’4.5″ on her second throw to earn the top seed in next week’s finals. The distance is a personal best for the junior.
Scarvelis finished second to Arroyo Grande’s Madison Jacobs in the discus throwing 156′ 9.5″. Jacobs went 163’11.5″.
Other Chargers advancing were Emma Redick (400), Addi Zerrenner (3200), Niema Poindexter (triple-jump) and Sydney Eilbacher (pole vault).
