Cate School’s boys tennis team crossed out Templeton from the CIF Division-4 Boys Tennis Tournament on Wednesday with a 12-6 victory in the first round.
It was a matchup of second-place teams out of the Condor League and Los Padres League. Cate advances to face Golden West League champion Segerstrom in the second round on Friday. Cate won the coin flip and will host at 3 p.m.
With Jason Xiao at No. 1 singles and the duo of Abhay Singh/Johnowen Lowe at No. 1 doubles leading the way, the Rams jumped out to a 5-1 lead after one round of play against Templeton. Xiao swept his three sets 6-1, 6-1, 6-0. The doubles team was equally effective with set scores of 6-3, 6-1, 6-0.
The other Cate doubles teams clinched the victory by winning two points each. The tandems of Parker Gribb/Alex Eriling, and Brendan Lokre/Michael Nettesheim both swept Templeton’s No. 2 and No. 3 teams.
