San Marcos ended a drought at the CIF Division 1 Swimming Championships on Thursday in Riverside.
The girls 200 free relay and freshman Olivia Smith became the first Royals in over 10 years to advance out of the prelims. Smith will swim in the consolation finals of the 50 free after clocking a 24.67, which was good for 18th place.
The relay team of Maddeline Kriz, Dasha Depew, Grace Pizzinat and Smith finished 16th in a school-record time of 1:40.27 and qualified for the consolation finals on Saturday.
In other results, the 200 medley relay team of Kriz, Kate Coski, Pizzinat and Megan Bergthold finished 34th in 1:56.86; the 400 free relay was 23rd in 3:41.04; Depew was 21st in the 200 IM (1:55.19) and 19th in the 500 free (5:03.67); Smith placed 21st in the 100 fly (59.19)
“We are very proud of our improvement and the season’s successes,” San Marcos coach Chuckie Roth said. “We look forward to faster swims on Saturday in finals.”
