Steven Lam is used to getting up early in the morning for classes at SBCC.
Lam made the most of Sunday’s 7:30 a.m. tee time in the second round of the 54th annual Santa Barbara City Golf Championship. The SBCC golf team member shot a 6-under 64 and took over the championship flight lead with a total of 8-under 132 at the Santa Barbara Golf Club.
He holds a four-shot lead over Upland’s James Camaione, who shot a 1-under 69, and a five-shot advantage over defending champion Brian Helton and two-time champion Kevin Marsh, who both shot 68s.
The final round of the championship flight tees off at 9:30 Monday, with the leaders going off at 10 a.m.
Allen Geiberger and UCSB’s Brett Silvernail each shot 71s and are at 138, while Santa Barbara High standout James Morton (72) and Drew Miller (71) are tied at 139.
First-round leader Brandon Gama shot a 4-over 74 and is at 140 with George Downing (68) and six-time champion John Pate (73).
The cutoff was at 146.
Orlando Hernandez shot a 75 and held on to the lead in the Hogan Flight at 148; Dan Dawson fired a 71 to take sole possession of first place in the Palmer Flight at 144; Abraham Placencia’s 75 vaulted him into the lead of the Nicklaus Flight at 154; Richard Gonzales leads the Trevino Flight at 163 after shooting a 79; Josh Bowie opened up a seven-shot advantage (160) after shooting a 77 in the Snead Flight; Don Dick leads the Player Flight at 172 after scoring an 83 on Sunday.
