San Marcos defeated Oaks Christian on Saturday night 25-19, 25-23, 26-24 in a quarterfinal match of the CIF Division 2 Tournament.
“Realistically, we were in system all night,” said Royals assistant coach Josh Kuntz. “Our hitters were real effective.”
Baker Johnson led the attack with 23 kills, supported by another 18 kills from Shane Hauschild. Junior setter Christian Widmer handed out 38 assists while defensive specialist Joe Terre collected eight digs in the quick three-set match.
The Royals closed out the match in the third set on a block by Widmer.
“We were just able to put a couple balls away at the end and finish with a big block,” Kuntz said.
The Royals (23-8) advance to Wednesday’s semifinals where they will face either Dos Pueblos or Esperanza. That quarterfinal match will be decided on Monday.
