Under the title of class act, top-seeded Esperanza agreed to reschedule the CIF Division 2 boys quarterfinal volleyball match with Dos Pueblos to Monday because DP is having its senior prom on Saturday night.
The Chargers have 12 seniors on their team.
“I have never heard of anybody being that flexible,” a gracious DP Athletic Director Dan Feldhaus said. “It really is nice of Esperanza to do that.”
The match will be played at 7 p.m. on Monday at Esperanza.
Meanwhile, Santa Barbara and San Marcos will play their quarterfinal matches on Saturday.
Third-seeded Santa Barbara will host defending champion Oak Park at 5 p.m. at Westmont’s Murchison Gym.
This will be the second meeting between the schools. Oak Park eliminated the Dons (19-9) in the quarterfinals of the Dos Pueblos Invitational. The Eagles (26-8) are led by 6-2 opposite Woody Cook.
San Marcos (22-8) plays at Oaks Christian at 7 p.m. on Saturday. The Royals were unsuccessful in their attempt to get the match moved to an earlier time.
If San Marcos and DP win, they would meet in the semifinals on Wednesday.
In the other Division 2 quarterfinal, second-seeded Laguna Beach plays at Foothill.
