Cameron Fry was a force in the middle, and Dos Pueblos stepped up its play after a second-set loss and beat visiting Burroughs of Burbank in four sets in a CIF Division 2 second-round boys volleyball playoff match Thursday night. The scores were 25-19, 24-26, 25-12, 25-20.
The Chargers advance to a Saturday quarterfinal match against top-seeded Esperanza on the road.
Dos Pueblos (16-6) roared back after blowing a 24-21 lead in the second set and handled Burroughs the rest of the way.
“We made a couple of mistakes and they got the victory,” DP coach Chris Hughes said of the second set. “We went back to work and took care of them in game three.”
Fry and Jackson Wopat were too much to handle. Fry had 13 kills and seven blocks. Wopat hammered a team-high 15 kills and added a pair of blocks. Josh Lemons also played big at the net with four blocks and two kills, and he picked up seven digs.
Niko Plesons passed well and gave Burroughs fits with his serving. He served up five aces.
Burroughs was led by Daniel Jacobs with 17 kills, but the Chargers were able to neutralize him in the third and fourth sets.
“We did a good job of slowing down their opposite and middle,” said Hughes.
