Carpinteria pounded St. Anthony 14-3 in Friday’s CIF Division-6 first round game as Duncan Gordan and Derrick Moore drove home eight runs together.
Gordon alone recorded five RBI on a 3-for-4 day. Moore knocked in three runs on two doubles. Each scored a run. Anthony Rodriguez and Kevin Stein added two hits apiece and scored a total of five runs.
“Saint Anthony is a well coached team that scored a lot of runs this season,” reported Warriors head coach Pat Cooney. “The pressure by our guys early really set the tone and propelled us to the win. The guys continue to execute in key situations. They trust the work that they have put in.”
The Warriors scored 13 runs in the first three innings.
Max Damron pitched a complete game for the playoff victory and struck out eight in his fifth win of the season.
“Damron and (Kevin) Stein worked really well together to limit the Saints,” Cooney said. “The approach was a little different after we scored some runs but I thought they did a great job of adjusting to the hitters and situations.”
Nathan Marquez went 3-for-3 for St. Anthony.
The Warriors advance to Tuesday’s second round where they will see Windward or Webb.
