Cate School’s baseball team scored in every inning but its last at-bat in a 15-6 victory over Faith Baptist on Thursday that was a CIF Division-7 first-round game.
The Rams scored three in the first, four in the second, three in the third, two in the fourth, and four more in the fifth.
“We were aggressive today,” said Rams head coach Ben Soto, referring to his team’s batting and base running.
Cate stole seven bases in the game. Starting pitcher Justin Lucchesi swiped two bags and scored two runs with a four-hit day. Zach Ell collected four RBIs and a triple.
Ben Swain was 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI. Freshman Dean Smith finished 2-for-2 with a double and an RBI.
Lucchesi’s five innings of work earned the senior the victory.
Cate, 14-2 overall, plays its second round game on Tuesday.
