Cate School’s baseball team advanced in the CIF Division-7 playoffs on Tuesday in a 19-8 decision over Vistamar.
The Rams will face in Friday’s quarterfinals.
Cate set the tone with seven runs in the first inning and totaled five extra-base hits, including a three-run long ball by Zach Ell.
Carlos Fairbanks was 4-for-4 and reached base five times. While on the basepaths, Fairbanks swiped three bags and scored four times.
Humza Khurshid and Dean Smith had triples, Benton Swain and Ryan Baird doubles.
“We dedicated our efforts today to the memory of Mr. Thompson and what Coach (Charlie) Thompson has done for us,” said Rams head coach Ben Soto, who learned that his assistant coach’s father had passed away in the morning.
“We won the game but we played with heavy hearts.”
