Dunn’s baseball team returned the favor to Cate on Wednesday, handing the Rams their first Condor League loss of the season in a 9-3 decision.
The Earwigs’ only league loss of the season was a 14-4 setback to Cate on April 17. Coming into today’s game, Cate held the No. 4 ranking in CIF Division 7 and Dunn was No. 6.
Dunn pitcher Ryan Layton kept Cate off-balance to earn his fourth win of the season.
“Our pitching and defense we’re solid. We simply just got beat by a good team,” reported Rams assistant coach Dave Soto. “The good news is that we can still control our own league destiny. Two more wins gives us a share of the league championship, which has been our goal all season.”
Cate took the game’s first lead in the first inning when Zach Ell drove home Justin Lucchesi with a triple that reached the right centerfield fence.
Cate plays again on Saturday at OVS.
