Jack Gregson pitched a complete-game three-hitter and contributed at the plate with a triple, double and a RBI, leading Bishop Diego’s baseball team to an 8-1 win over visiting Grace Brethren in the Tri-Valley League finale on Thursday.
The Cardinals (14-9 overall) finish in second place behind Oaks Christian with a 7-3 record and head into next week’s CIF playoffs with a three-game winning streak.
“We’re hoping to extend our season as long as we can,” said assistant coach Kai Solin.
Gregson was one of four seniors recognized on Senior Day. The others are John Salda, Jacob Salcedo and John Rios.
On the mound, Gregson struck out four, walked three and hit a batter.
He got plenty of offensive support. Scott Atelian went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases;
Scott Mandrell was 2-for-4 with a double, drove in two runs, scored twice and stole a base; Nolan Tooley was 2-4 with 2 RBIs. The Cardinals had 13 hits.
