Visin, Waltman on top at UCSB’s Kendra Payne Triathlon

Kyle Visin and Jon Waltman were triumphant in the Open and Collegiate races of the?Kendra Payne Triathlon?held on Saturday in Goleta.

Waltman’s time of?1:12:44 was the day’s best performance. Visin was clocked at 1:14.14.

Waltman, a member of the UCSB Triathlon team, finished second place last year and is a former winner of the Santa Barbara Triathlon.

The top race for the women also came from the collegiate division. Laurence Delisle’s time of 1:24.58 bested Alessandra Sales by 17 seconds and Stephanie Thorton by 27 seconds. Delisle and Thorton were top-10 overall in the collegiate division while Sales was 24th overall in the open division.

The collegiate division was sanctioned by the West Coast Collegiate Triathlon Conference.

Josh Schaidle, Carl Parker, Isaac Amador Renter and Timothy Winslow filled out the top-five places after Visin in the open division.

The Kendra Payne Triathlon is a sprint-course race consisting of a 1/2 mile ocean swim, a 16-mile bike, and a 3-mile run. The event – in its ninth year – is organized by the UCSB Triathlon Team to raise money for the Kendra Chiota Payne Memorial Fund.

Saturday’s event also hosted the USAT Southwest Regional Aquabike Championship, with Ventura’s Mike Shaffer besting the nine-person field in a time of 55:14. Shaffer was the only competitor finishing in under an hour.
