Stamatia Scarvelis’ unbeaten streak in the shot put came to an end on Saturday at the prestigious Arcadia Invitational.
The Dos Pueblos junior, the reigning state champion, finished fourth with a throw of 47-4.75. The last time Scarvelis didn’t win an event in the shot put was at last year’s CIF-SS Masters Meet, where she finished second. She won the state title the following week.
She won her first six outdoor events this season.
Ashlie Blake, of Liberty, Nevada, won the Arcadia title with a throw of 50-9.25. Nia Britt of Alemany was second (48-3.25) and Tanya Sapa of La Sierra was third (47-7.25).
Scarvelis finished second in the discus with a personal best and school record of 159-5. Her previous best was 154-0, which she set in a dual meet against San Marcos.
The discus winner at Arcadia was Valerie Allman, of Silver Creek, Colo., with a mark of 178-10.
In other field events, DP’s Sydney Eibacher finished in a tie for sixth in the girls pole vault at a height of 11-1. There was a five-way tie for first place at 11-7. Niema Poindexter went 33-3 in the girls triple jump.
On the track, Bryan Fernandez ran in the Seeded 2 boys 3200 race and finished eighth in a personal best of 9:11.011. Adam Peterman of Hellgate, Montana, won the race in 8:57.097.
