Emily Bernath captured the 1500 on Friday in the third-fastest time in SBCC history, leading the Vaquero women to second place in the seventh annual Coast Classic at Orange Coast College in Costa Mesa. The freshman from Buena High was timed in 4:40.28.
Kodie Herbert also won for the Vaqueros, taking the javelin at 34.83 meters, the No. 6 mark in school history. Kaytee Krivulka was second in the hammer (42.03m, #2 SBCC mark) and third in the discuss (36.19).
The Vaquero women placed second with 88 points in a 10-team field that included two four-year universities (Concordia, Vanguard). Orange Coast won with 120 points.
Second-place finishers included Emily Walker in the 400 (59.15), Kathryn Rucker in the high jump (1.57m) and the 4×100 relay team in 49.92.
In the men’s meet, Ian Roberts won the 1500 in 3:57.50, the sixth-best time in school history. The Vaqueros finished fifth with 92 points. Orange Coast won the team title at 121.5.
Cody Bidlow was second in the 100 and the first community college runner in 11.26. Bidlow was third in the 200 at 22.73.
Tristan Lake took second in the 400 hurdles in the third-fastest time in school history (53.93). Aaron Meteski was second in the javelin at 51.83.
The Vaqueros will compete in the Mt. SAC Invitational on Friday in Walnut.
