Logan Liddell of SBCC won his opening-round singles match and cruised to a doubles victory on the first day of the Men’s Community College State Tennis Championships at the 113th Ojai Tournament.
Liddell, a freshman from Santa Barbara High, is seeded 13th in the South. He beat Bastien Capony of Fresno City 6-4, 6-3. He’ll take on No. 4 Andrew Amor of American River on Friday in an 8 a.m. match at Pacifica High in Oxnard.
Liddell and Fabian Lundberg are the No. 5 seed in doubles. They routed Calvin Hoo-Collin Matthews of El Camino 6-0, 6-1 to move into Friday’s Round of 32. Liddell-Lundberg will meet No. 12 Brandon Lew-Gerald Mahone of Chabot at 12:30 p.m. at Pacifica High.
SBCC’s Carlo Bierbaum dropped his first-round singles match to Rafa De Luz of Irvine Valley 7-5, 6-4. In doubles, Bierbaum and Soufiane El Mhamdi downed He’Bert Sherrod-Jose Torres of San Diego City 6-1, 6-1, then fell to top-seeded Sam Bertram-Adam DeRomas of State team champion Fresno City 6-1, 6-0.
Eduardo Baccini-Daniel Barrington took their first-round match by a 6-2, 6-3 count over Will McKenney-Kevin Stanley of Saddleback. Baccini-Barrington fell in the Round of 64 to No. 4 Collin Mui-Brook Workeneh of Chabot 6-4, 6-4.
